Limited-Edition H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Features Vintage Tobacco
A limited-edition offshoot of the H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez line will be heading to retailers at the end of the month, and it’s made with Nicaraguan tobacco from a 2009 crop.
Dubbed Finca La Lilia 2009, the new blend incorporates tobacco planted in 2009 by cigarmaker and leaf grower A.J. Fernandez. Now 10 years old, this tobacco is from the first crop grown on Fernandez’s La Lilia farm, a plantation in Estelí, Nicaragua, named after his grandmother.
Like the core line, the blend consists of an Ecuadoran Sumatra-seed wrapper, Nicaraguan Corojo ’99 binder and filler from Nicaragua (Criollo ’98) and the Dominican Republic (Piloto Cubano). The difference lies in the 2009 vintage tobacco and a higher-priming wrapper for added strength.
The H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Finca La Lilia 2009 comes in one size, a 6 inch by 60 ring Magnum that retails for $12 and is packaged in boxes of 20.
Only 3,750 boxes have been produced. The new smoke will start shipping on September 30.
The Magnum is the sixth size in H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez, a lineup that includes IPR (PCA) trade show.
The cigars are produced by A.J. Fernandez at his factory in Nicaragua for H. Upmann trademark for the U.S. and distributes the brand.
