My Favorite Cigar

Peter Weller • Actor/Writer
Fuente Fuente OpusX PerfecXion X
The man who starred as RoboCop, Buckaroo Banzai and a host of other roles has been enjoying cigars since the 1980s. He still smokes regularly. “Three or four times a week,” he says, while puffing a Partagás Serie P No. 2 after a round of golf in Italy. His favorite is the Fuente Fuente OpusX PerfecXion X. He also likes the Ramon Allones Gigantes, one of Cuba’s finest double coronas.
Weller is a literal Renaissance man who taught at Syracuse University and has a Masters in Roman and Renaissance art, plus a PhD in Italian Renaissance art history. He has a knack for putting a spark in a subject that could otherwise be dull.
“Byzantine today means scheming or old or devious,” Weller said on the History Channel’s documentary on the Byzantines, standing in modern-day Turkey near the Bosphorus, “but during its 1,100 years the Byzantine Empire would not only be the savior to the Western world’s profound heritage of law and literature, but it would put Christianity on the fast track.”
He can also talk at length about cigars—he laments the loss of one of his former favorites, the tissue-wrapped Fonseca No. 1 from Cuba. “They discontinued it two years ago,” he says.
